Welcome to all players, parents, coaches, committee members and supporters of the Lara Soccer Club to season 2010. And what a fantastic season it is already! Lara teams are proudly playing on our new home ground. A big thank you to all involved; both State and local Councilors, Sporting Club Board members and the Department of Education who have made this possible. Let’s get over there on Saturdays and Sundays and support all our teams. As always let’s make sure the games are an enjoyable experience and played in the spirit of good sportsmanship both on the pitch and off by players and supporters. Just a reminder to all - please take your rubbish with you or place in the bins at the car park. We have had a few changes to the committee. Details for current members and coaches are listed below. But the club continues to go from strength to strength and we have every reason to be optimistic for the coming year. If you are interested in becoming part of the committee or helping out in any other area in the section please let one of the committee members know. GO LARA!
Despite the lack of a home ground the club had a great 2009 season. Congratulations to the Men’s Senior team that were champions of Division 2 and will play Division 1 this year. Congratulations also to the U13s team, champions of Division 2 and Grand Final Winners.
Congratulations also to Connor McGrath who was awarded the Best and Fairest for GRFA U13s and Lochlann McGrath and Sophie Jansen who were chosen to represent the Wimerra South Coast Zone in the FFV Victorian Champions League (VCL) over the summer. It’s from these Zone clubs that Victorian teams are selected to compete against other states and territories in Australia. Lochlann competed well in the VCL and gained selection into the Victorian squad which went to Canberra for the recent National Competition. Our coaching Coordinator Tony Horrocks was also selected to coach U13 Girls in the VCL for the Wimerra South Coast Zone.
The 2010 season launch was held at Elcho Park Golf Club on Friday 7th May. The captains of all teams, from U13s up to Seniors, were presented with their armbands. All players received a bag in Lara colours to carry their kit to games. Our president, John Murphy, spoke about the future plans of the club, in particular, the new grounds that are planned. The president of the Sporting Club offered his best wishes for the coming season. It was great to see such a fantastic turn out and a good time was had by all.
Watch this space for upcoming events. Start looking forward to Christmas in July!
